Everyone has heard the saying that technology is good when
it works. Right? I know I have. For the last few weeks, I had the opportunity
to review the Hey Mama! Print Schoolhouse Planner 2016-2017 from The Old Schoolhouse.
I find in our family for both school and recreation the
phones and tablets have inched their way in to most parts of our lives. We use a computer for our children’s’ math,
e-readers and games and daily activities.
Even in this digital age, the kids and I like to have a real
solid book in our hands when reading; however, there are many freebies to be
found on the internet when you download on your hard drive via PDF and on the
Kindle.
I have used a few online sites for documenting our
homeschool, which works well to easily keep our hours and documentation for both
children. I have used online planners;
it is nice to be able to view class work and move it around as needed.
While using the planner, I was thinking I really enjoyed
writing down the items for school and personal records into the planner. There is something about seeing it on paper
and being able to take it with you to meetings and get social/extracurricular activities
all in line. I have used it for our busy
4-H schedule. It has helped keep me on task.
I absolutely love it! I didn’t think it would help me to be more
efficient but it has helped me in many ways.
The planner has sayings and quotes to make me think and take
a deep breath. It helps me take a few
minutes to think about what is important and how to have happiness in
Christ. It has reminded me that this
time with the children is so short and precious.
There is ample space before each calendar for notes. There are spots to write assignments, to
write curriculum and to make plan s for each week. The information toward the
back helps families create academic transcripts. There is information about states and their
capitals, including when they joined the union.
There are quick references on branches of federal, state, and Local
governments. Included are timelines of inventions, presidents and their wives,
curriculum planner sheet, and a homeschool contact list.
In another section, there is a year-long book log to write
down books read by each child. There is
a section for monthly and yearly goals, which really got me thinking, not only
about school but out financially and spiritually.
I have started using this planner by starting to plan for
our upcoming school year. This calendar starts in July 2016 as does our school
year. I would highly recommend any
family that homeschool who needs to get more organized, to keep their life in
more order without a lot of hassle, to get more work done, must get this
planner! This is the perfect time during
the summer to plan for the fall and get organized.
