Today was a beautiful, sunny and warm day on the homestead. We are thankful for the rain we received yesterday. Unfortunately, a family east of us had hay bales catch on fire from the lightning. The area is still very dry.
Meanwhile, on the homeschool front: We have been very busy learning about Egypt, Babylon, Hittites and the Greeks in our history lessons. We read scripture where these ancient people and civilizations can be found. My mother who lives on the next ridge, has offered to help us with Language Arts/Writing. This is a great help as I have time to do a few other things around the house while she is going over these lessons. We usually then take a break and the weather has been so very nice kids jump on trampoline or run in the woods. We then work on math, have lunch and work on science lessons, then onto reading which both fiction and non fiction titles are used. I love Sonlight's picks of books to read. Sonlight has questions related to their books to make sure that the kids understand what they read. In addition, they supply many maps related to the reading which covers Geography.
We have been using Apologia for science for the last 3 years. This year we started Chemistry. Jacob is doing Algebra 1 this year so he will be working on the "math" part of Chemistry but we learn concepts and perform the experiments together. Extra time is reserved for chores, Spanish and coding.
I had time yesterday evening to work on roasting then freezing peppers, and canning jalapenos and spaghetti sauce. I love the smell of garlic! While I was slaving in the kitchen :) kids had a chance to shoot clays in preparation for a duck hunt this weekend.
Tomorrow, we have a park day with our local homeschool group! Busy times but times I cherish.
