Stopmotion Explosion: Animate ANYTHING and Make MOVIES Book ~ Review

We jumped at the chance to review Stopmotion Explosion; it allowed us to try something new in our homeschool.

Subject matter and teaching approach:
No matter how you home educate, the Stopmotion Explosion: Animate ANYTHING and make MOVIES book can function both as a method of teaching and can bring a wide range of topics to the broad array of learning. This kit will make you and your kids say, “WOW THIS IS SO COOL!” It is a complete introduction to intermediate stop-motion and film making. The book has approximately 292 pages of step-by-step tutorials and illustrations. Hannah and Jacob learned how to write a screenplay; how to make a character walk, run, or talk; and finally how to edit scenes and add voices and sound effects.

Animate Anything:
With the Stopmotion Explosion Kit, children can research and animate just about anything. The kids were eager to learn how to animate.  They worked together to create an intense battle sequence with LEGO®s to create a wonderland learning scene with a lady, “rocket man,” a “walker” that exploded after it shot a laser which ricochets back at itself.

Music and Sound Effects:
Finally, with included software, they polished their films by adding audio and character voices, enhanced and morphed the sounds using hundreds of audio effects and free recording software. They finished their movie and shared with family and friends.  Movies can be exported to YouTube. I plan to save their creative movie as they will be treasured memories. We used our own computer camera, but Stopmotion Explosion has a complete kit which includes a camera and software.  We downloaded the software after we received the book.

Stopmotion Explosion Book includes the following:
·  Idea generation.
·  Screenwriting formats and methods.
·  Epoxy and wire building animation.

The software includes:

     ·  We downloaded the necessary software from their website, after we started reading the book.

  • Software supports OS X and Windows
      ·  Paint.NET for image editing

     ·  Celtx for screenwriting

     ·  Audacity for sound editing

     ·  MonkeyJam and SME for animating

     ·  MPEG Streamclip for image processing

     ·  Windows Movie Maker for movie editing

Software computer requirements:

·  Windows and OS X compatible
·  Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10 supported
·  USB 2.0.
·  CD-ROM Drive.
·  200 MB available hard drive space.

We would greatly recommend Stopmotion Explosion for anyone interested in movie making, young and old alike.  The book was extremely easy to understand and follow the step by step instructions.  The illustrations, tied with the software, created an ease of learning.   When the kids added the music and vocals, the movie came alive, which left them wanting to make another movie.  Any family could easily add this to their computer or art curriculum.  Don’t miss out of a lifetime of learning with one kit that can be used for many years to come.
