We started planting cool weather seeds such as broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, onions, peas, carrots and asparagus. We have plenty of mulch to hopefully keep from pulling so many weeds.
We ordered seedlings last fall from the Missouri Department of Conservation. We planted Missouri native Black Walnut, Pecan, Paw Paw and Elderberry. First we made the holes. We no longer have a large tractor to make holes so we did it the old fashioned - with -a shovel way.
Next, we removed grass away from the large hole. We added manure from our barn lot to increase fertility. Lastly we added mulch that will aid in moisture retention, drainage and weed control.
We love the idea of getting many harvests of Elderberry and nut meats. We will keep you updated on the progress.
