Chicken and Turkey House ~ Part One

We have turkey eggs in the incubator, so when they are big enough they can join the 2 adult Bourbon Red turkeys. Soon this will be their new home. As you can see they can't wait to move in!

We used an old door from an old house.  We painted it with deck over to keep it from falling apart.

We used older barn boards for this lean-to type of building.  We are not carpenters and we tried to keep costs to a minimum and use as much as possible from recycled material.  We put chicken wire on the ground then placed pallets for the floor. Chicken wire on the ground will keep the predators at bay.  Then placed OSB on top and screwed into place.  We placed screws into the end of the barn boards into the pallets and OSB. We covered the OSB with Thompson's water seal.

Tar paper was placed over the barn boards to keep it from getting as wet inside.  The wind made this difficult job even more so.

We plan to separate the house with meat chickens on one end and turkeys on the other.  We will order the meat chickens soon in order to have some ready for the fair.
We have started putting up siding on the house so check back soon for an update on the final product!
