A+ Interactive Math ~ Math Mini-Courses Review

A+ Interactive Math offers complete computer-based math courses and we reviewed two Math Mini-Courses from A+ Interactive Math  It provides comprehensive math mini-course coverage with multimedia lessons. The multimedia math mini programs are great for the student who prefers online lessons rather than just books. Hannah and Jacob both appreciated this aspect of the lessons as they learn best by both media and worksheet learning.

Each colorful lesson walks the student through the topics step-by-step, with the voice of a teacher. The voice of the teacher has a little “computer type speech,” but it not hard to understand. Students may fast forward or review the teaching presentation. At the end of a mini-math lesson presentation, they can review the lesson in the text format, or they can go immediately to the set of interactive practice questions. If a student misses a practice problem, the program will automatically reteach the concept. After the online lesson, the students can work with pencil and printed PDF worksheets.

A recommended lesson plan sequence is provided by the program, but students can jump around between lessons (or you can assign lessons in your preferred sequence) rather than following a set progression.  I found the side bar “Table of Contents” made it easy to go to specific lessons.  I only wish it was easily expandable.  You must use the scroll bar at the bottom to completely view the table of contents description. This is minor, but I found it harder to navigate.

A Worksheets Solution Guide and an Exams Solution Guide are both included in each math mini-course for parental use.

The kids found each lesson easy to navigate and found each completed lesson and where they needed to go in order to progress through the courses.

Hannah and Jacob both used the math mini- lessons that taught the concepts with engaging, computer animated video lessons, audio and text. They watched the lessons then used the worksheets that provided extra practice to help conquer each math concept. The kids and I both appreciated the automatic grading and tracking.

I continued to keep up to date on their progress using the progress reports after each section. Solution guides help me as an educator which helps save time and it helps the kids to even check their own work if possible. If an individual is not as confident then the solutions provide detailed step-by-step solutions with visuals to each problem.
For those who prefer the text versions of lessons, this is an additional option that creates flexibility in math lessons.
All you need is a computer (Windows PC or Mac) with a high-speed internet connection.
Online courses have automatically generated worksheets and exams with automatic scoring and tracking. Courses have printable worksheets available and exams if parents wish to use them. (You might want to use them so that students can show their work along with their answers.) These will need to be corrected manually.
Topics are taught individually and worksheets have problems pertaining only to the current topic.

Summary
A+ Interactive Math provides online Math Mini-Courses for you to give students a comprehensive math instruction. I believe A+ Interactive math is a wonderful program that keeps tract of scores and allows parents and students to work at their own pace.  It allows automatic grading and worksheets which for busy homeschool families is a huge benefit.  We enjoyed it and feel it is something that each family will both enjoy that keep student engaged in the math learning process and stimulated to want to learn more.
