The kids and I had the opportunity to review HelpTeaching.com Pro Plan for the Schoolhouse Review Crew.
I was a little reluctant to sign up for this, as I haven’t had much luck
with online classes with the kids in the past.
I was wonderfully surprised at how well we enjoyed the
site.
We used the HelpTeaching.com website for science,
math, language arts, music and art instruction.
Although there are lessons for elementary we focused on middle and high school
lessons. My 11-year-old daughter gave it a 3.5 stars, Jacob, 12, gave it a 4.5
out of 5 stars.
I found it easy to navigate the site in order to locate what I
wanted them to learn. There was a tab for lessons, tests, games, online tests, and
test and game maker. There are many subjects
to choose from such as biology, astronomy, chemistry and physics. Math lessons included: Geometry, Trigonometry,
Statistics and Algebra, English Language
Arts include Grammar, Literature, and Spelling.
Lastly, electives include Art, Music, PE, and Theater which were presented as worksheets and tests.
As far as navigating through the website I found it a breeze to print, to create a test or send it
to whichever child needed to take that particular test. Parents can print and/or schedule the students to take online. When making a test, the instructor is allowed
to give special instructions, sort or delete questions, print or copy a test,
download as a PDF or schedule for a later time.
Well known interactive sites: Khan Academy, Educator.com,
HelpTeaching.com, or other YouTube are used to present items for lessons. They children watch a video then the site will give them questions for comprehension and practice. The children
noticed that a few of the videos had words or sentences at
the bottom of the video that seemed to scroll too fast for them to read.
I used the site to print off ideas for our co-op
physical education class that meets once per week. My husband helps lead this
class for younger students. He used a few of the ideas for them to learn rules
for a few games. Under the GAME tab a
parent or teacher can find Word finds, Bingo and Word Bingo are available to
generate and print.
There are three options for joining HelpTeaching.com.
A family could try the free membership to try the test maker before moving to
the PRO PLAN. The Pro Plan is not limited
to a number of tests/worksheets you can store on the site. The last option is for groups and/or co-ops.
In conclusion, the kids and I would highly recommend
this site for any homeschool or group/coop situation for a supplement or as a
standalone for elementary to high school students. The site is easy to navigate and located what
subject is desired. The how to guides
are clear and easy to perform. The games are fun for the kids and we look
forward to using this daily. One of my
favorite aspects of the site is the videos. My children were already using Khan
Academy, and now it is even easier to find what subjects are available at our
fingertips.
